With AZ Dryer Pros, replacing an outside dryer vent cover, hood, roof cap or bird guard in Arizona starts at $149. The technician checks the hood and the airflow, shows you photos and gives you the exact price before any work starts. If the vent behind it also needs cleaning, that's priced separately and only done if you approve. If you say no to extra work, you only pay for what you approved.
Why outside vent covers fail in Arizona
Plastic hoods turn brittle in the sun and the flaps crack or warp. Monsoon dust storms, mostly between mid-June and the end of September, blow dust into the hood where it mixes with damp lint and glues the flap shut. And in spring, birds look for sheltered spots to build nests, and a hood with a broken flap is an open door.
Signs your cover needs replacing
- The flap doesn't open when the dryer runs
- The flap hangs open when the dryer is off
- Cracked, faded or missing louvers
- Nest material, insects or dust visible inside
- The hood has pulled away from the stucco
- A roof cap that's dented, loose or rattling
Types of covers we install
We match the hood to the wall and the problem: single-flap hoods, louvered hoods, pest-guard hoods made for dryer exhaust, low-profile hoods where space is tight, and roof caps for vents that exit through the roof. We don't put fine mesh screens over dryer outlets. They catch lint and clog, which is the opposite of what you want.
How to install a dryer vent cover
If you're doing it yourself: remove the old hood, clean lint out of the duct end, make sure the duct actually connects to the new hood's collar, fasten the hood to the wall, and seal around the top and sides with exterior sealant. Then run the dryer and check that the flap opens fully. If the duct inside has come loose from the wall, or the vent is on the roof, that's where we come in.
How a visit works
- Look at the hood. We check the flap, the seal, and what's inside the hood.
- Price first. Photos and the exact price for the cover you need.
- Replace. Old hood off, duct connection checked, new hood fitted and sealed.
- Test. The dryer runs and we check the flap and the airflow.
